A geared brake motor is a cohesive drive unit comprised of an electric motor (DC brushed, brushless, or coreless), a mechanical gear reducer, and an integrated electromagnetic brake. The primary function of the brake is to provide holding torque and prevent rotation when power is disconnected, or to perform safe dynamic deceleration during a power failure.
In standard spring-applied fail-safe brakes, the braking force is generated by internal compression springs. When the system is de-energized, the springs press an armature plate against a friction disc, locking the motor shaft in place.
